Message by the Head of the National Survey Authority
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions. The National Survey Authority and Geospatial Information was established in 1974 under the name National Survey Agency as a consequence of the wise vision of His Late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said - may Allah rest his soul in peace. In October 1984, its name was changed to the National Survey Authority, and the organization was entrusted with greater national responsibilities. In August 2024, the name was changed to the National Survey Authority and Geospatial Information to align with its assigned tasks and responsibilities. Today it enjoys the ongoing support of our esteemed leader, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander - may Allah protect him - in carrying out our national duties, believing in the importance of protecting the borders of our dear homeland, and reaping the benefits of its abundant natural resources by safeguarding its geospatial data and information. The National Survey Authority and Geospatial Information is responsible for the application of standards related to surveys carried out throughout the country leading to the production of topographic maps. The various duties and responsibilities of the National Survey Authority and Geospatial Information include all of the following: the production of maps of all kinds, the conducting of surveys, the management of the national archive of geospatial data and aerial maps, the distribution of maps and geospatial data to ministries, government institutions, private sector institutions and individuals. The National Survey Authority and Geospatial Information is actively involved, alongside other institutions, in the implementation of e-government initiatives, by making our products and services available online as we work towards the realization of Oman Vision 2040.
