Engineering Services

The Engineering Services in the Sultan's Armed Forces trace their origin to the Engineering Division, established in 1950. This was set up to provide non-combat logistical engineering support and the necessary engineering services, to facilities and equipment operated by the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence. The division was based at Bait Al Falaj Camp. Although relatively small in terms of manpower, it was able to play an effective role in the Dhofar War. With the accession to the throne of His Late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may Allah rest his soul in peace - at the dawn of the blessed renaissance, the Engineering Division began its rapid expansion with additional roles and growing responsibilities in response to the steady development taking place within the Sultan's Armed Forces. In 1976, the Division was moved to Al-Murtafa'a Camp which could better accommodate the modern equipment and advanced machinery needed for the operation and maintenance of the growing number of facilities and installations belonging to the Sultan's Armed Forces. In 1987, the Engineering Division was renamed Engineering Services with responsibilities that include managing the operation of all military facilities and ensuring their maintenance; providing mechanical and electrical engineering expertise as well as public health engineering competence; implementing, project managing and supervising all projects approved by the Ministry of Defence. Engineering Services attaches the utmost importance to the training of its employees in various specializations and across all ranks. We have our own Training Centre, established in 1977, which provides our staff with a number of essential training courses. Our training policy has seen quantitative and qualitative development, with the number of personnel undergoing training in various disciplines increasing annually both inside and outside the sultanate.

Message by the Head of Engineering Services

Praise be to Allah, Lord of all creation, for his help and blessings. I would like to commend the great achievements made by Engineering Services and its employees over the past years. The contributions made by Engineering Services in its mission to support the Sultan’s Armed Forces have grown significantly over the years and made a qualitative leap in various fields and specializations. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our qualified engineers and technicians who have proven themselves capable of dealing with the various challenges encountered, and have executed their tasks with efficiency, professionalism and competence. We will continue to invest in our human resources by offering both practical and theoretical training so that we constantly upgrade our levels of expertise. This will allow us to continue to effectively support the Sultan’s Armed Forces, and ensure our readiness to provide community assistance to victims of extreme weather and other types of natural disaster. The challenges posed during the COVID 19 pandemic required all of us to join hands to navigate that difficult period while ensuring our usual levels of service. As per the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander - may Allah protect him - Engineering Services is fully committed to integrating our military and civilian responsibilities and playing a full part in the realization of Oman Vision 2040.

Engineering Services are enormously grateful to His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs and His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, for their generous support which has been the catalyst behind our increased efforts to make progress, and further develop our capacity to serve Oman and its leader- may Allah protect him. I extend to both of you my sincere thanks and appreciation for the unstinting support you have lent to this service and its personnel. May Allah help us all to serve Oman and its leader, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander- may Allah protect him.

Peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
